Additional Information

Admissions Standards

The EMIS program seeks to admit the best qualified candidates-those who have demonstrated potential for senior level management and leadership responsibility and who have the intellectual ability, maturity, initiative, and creativity to participate fully in this challenging interdisciplinary field.

Admission to the program requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Undergraduate grades should reflect a "B" average or above. Although not required, candidates who have not previously demonstrated strong academic performance are encouraged to submit Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores as evidence of their ability to perform competitively at the graduate level.

Candidates should demonstrate progressively responsible professional work experience with a focus on management and decision-making responsibilities.

Admission to the program is highly competitive and limited to 21 participants per cohort.

Admissions Process

Applying for admission to the EMIS program is a three-step process consisting of :

  • a preliminary application,
  • a personal interview, and
  • a full application.

Step 1 - Submit a Preliminary Application

Candidates for the Executive MIS program are required to submit a Preliminary Application (PreApp), which is a quick and easy tool to determine the likelihood of admission. You are encouraged to fill out the PreApp online or fax it to us at 703-726-8311 along with a copy of your resume. We will review your PreApp and advise you as to whether you will be competitive for admission. It is strongly suggested that the Preliminary Application be submitted as early as possible, preferably no later than July 1. Note: there are still seats available, please submit your pre-application as soon as possible to be considered.

Step 2 - Come in for a Personal Interview

Qualifying candidates are invited to a personal interview. The interview is your opportunity to expand upon your professional and academic experiences and to discuss your goals with a faculty member. This is also an excellent opportunity to ask questions about the program and to ensure that the program is well suited to your needs.

Step 3 - Submit a Full Application

The final phase of the process is the completion of the Full Application, including official transcripts of all prior undergraduate and graduate work, a formal statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation (at least one of which should be from your current employer).

A formal decision cannot be made until all application materials have been received. We recommend that you complete your Full Application by July 15. You will be notified of the admission decision by mail. Once admitted, candidates will have two weeks to submit a non-refundable deposit of $500 to hold their place in the cohort. Refer to the EMIS Financial Information page for tuition, payment schedule and financial assistance information.

Our target for completing the process is July 31. Applications completed after the deadline will be reviewed if space remains available.
